Scrubbing Stress Away: Poetry for Cleaning Minds and Relaxing Souls

As an extremely hectic mum of many, my days are filled with a never-ending stream of responsibilities and tasks. From managing the household to taking care of the kids, there’s rarely a moment to sit down and catch my breath. That’s why I’ve taken up writing poetry as a way to relax and unwind in the evenings.

For me, poetry is a form of therapy. It provides an escape from the chaos of daily life and allows me to delve into my thoughts and emotions. I find that writing poems helps me to slow down and focus, which is something I often struggle with when I’m feeling overwhelmed.

In the evenings, I take a few quiet moments to sit down with my notebook and pen, and let the words flow. Sometimes, I write about my day, and other times I delve into my imagination and create something completely new. The act of writing itself is soothing and helps me to wind down from the hustle and bustle of the day.

One particular poem I wrote was about cleaning. As a mum, cleaning is a never-ending chore, and it can often feel like it’s taking over my life. But with this poem, I was able to find beauty and joy in the mundane task of keeping my home tidy.

A bucket of suds, a scrubbing brush so tough,
The smell of bleach, a cleaning day has begun.
With a rag in hand and a smile so bright,
I’ll tackle the mess and make everything right.

The bathroom shines with a sparkle so new,
Every corner and crevice, a thing of beauty to view.
The tiles are gleaming, the faucets are bright,
A clean and fresh space that shines with light.

Next on my list is the kitchen so dear,
Where meals are made and memories are clear.
I’ll scour the stove, wash down the counters too,
And leave the room shining like morning dew.

The living room needs some tender love and care,
The dust and the dirt, it’s time to repair.
With a vacuum and mop, I’ll make it all right,
A cozy and clean space for the rest of the night.

Oh cleaning, it’s a task I do so well,
A task that brings peace and a ringing bell.
For when the day is done, and the sun sets low,
A clean and tidy home is all aglow.

So I’ll keep on cleaning, with a heart so true,
For a clean home is a happy home, this much I know is true.
And when all is done, and the day is through,
I’ll rest my weary bones and dream of cleaning anew.

Writing poetry has been a life-changing experience for me, and I would encourage anyone who is feeling overwhelmed or stressed to give it a try. Whether it’s in the evenings, or during a quiet moment in the day, it’s a simple and effective way to find peace and calm in a busy world.
